Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does Caragan take a percentage of my deal?
No. Once we have brought you together with
a record label executive then that's where our
involvement in the process ends. When we take your material
to a label we give them your contact details.
They can then liase with you directly at their discretion.
Q: Which music-industry companies do Caragan work with?
We have contacts in all the major labels (including
Sony, Universal, Polydor, Virgin, EMI, BMG)
and many of the influential independents
(including Edel, Instant Karma and Independiente).
The list is always growing!
Q: How do you get my demos to music-industry executives?
We personally play your music to our contacts at
large record labels in our regular meetings with them.
We work very hard to get your music listened to by the right
music industry execs.
Q: What types of music do Caragan deal with?
We deal with all types of music.
However, bear in mind
that major record labels are more likely to
be interested if there is a large market for your chosen genre.
That's not to say you only have to submit "middle of the road"
pop though. The music industry is always on the look out for
stuff that's new and interesting!
Q: Who screens my submissions on behalf of Caragan?
Your music will be listened to by one of our
music-industry experts.

Q: Do my demos have to be broadcast quality?
No, you do not have to spend thousands of pounds in a top
studio to record your demos! The most important factor is that the music
comes across well. However, whilst home recordings are fine for our
purposes, you should ensure that the recording quality does not make
listening painful (e.g. "I can't make out the lead vocal due to
tape hiss!").
Remember, we may well play your music to top music executives so spend a
bit of time making it as good as you can.
Q: Do you have a quota-based system for forwarding submissions?
No, we have no quota system. We simply forward submissions that we think
are good enough quality. You need not worry about competition from
other musicians. If your music is good enough it will get through, regardless
of how many other submissions we have receieved.
Q: What happens if my music is forwarded?
If your music is chosen for forwarding then it will be
played personally by a member of the Caragan team in our regular
meetings with record labels.
We contact you and tell you where your music was forwarded
and give the music company involved your details so they can
contact you directly to take things further.
Q: What happens if my music is not forwarded?
If, for whatever reason, your music is not forwarded we will return it
to you along with a friendly and personal report detailing the
reasons why your submission was not forwarded and advising you
on how to increase your chances in the future.
Feedback such as this is invaluable
to your musicial career. Where else can you get advice from music-industry
professionals as qualified as those on
the Caragan team?
